Entered Pacifica: 2002
Current Occupation: Psychotherapist
Where You Live: Sacramento, CA
What Brought You To Pacifica?
I was interested in exploring some of the deeper aspects of the psyche both personally and professionally. I'd been exposed to Jung, but only slightly. I was fascinated by the concept of a collective unconscious and archetypes. I was especially interested in "unusual" psychic experiences, and Depth Psychology, especially from a Jungian perspective seemed to me to hold some potential answers to questions that traditional psychology had ignored or pathologized.
As a psychotherapist, I had realized years ago that many of the issues my clients were dealing with seemed to come from the personal and possibly the collective unconscious. Since much of Depth Psychology involves the study of the unconsicous, it seemed like a pefect fit.
How Has Your Pacifica Degree Served You Professionally In Your Occupation/Vocation?
As I explained above, I had a professional interest in better understanding the unconscious. Pacifica did provide that deeper understanding. I've begun to utilize interventions in my work that connect more directly with the unconscious (dreamwork, EMDR, and hypnosis, for example).
How Has Your Degree Served You Personally?
In the same way it has helped me work with my clients, it has provided me with a better understanding of myself at a variety of levels.
What Was The Meaningful Or Memorable Part Of The Pacifica Experience For You?
The degree of openness to unusual ideas in both the faculty and my classmates. It was refreshing.
