Entered Pacifica: 2003

Current Occupation: Technical Writer for software documentation

Where You Live: San Elijo, San Diego

What Brought You To Pacifica?
First, reading The Power of Myth.  I was always drawn to Greek myths. I liked Joseph Campbell's take on different cultures. When I was in my first Saturn return, I moved to Santa Barbara from Columbus, Ohio for a job. I'd been sort of an armchair therapist to my friends who would call me in the middle of the night, so I thought about becoming a therapist as a career change. I read about Pacifica online and thought, "Wow, this place sounds cool." I lived near the campus for several years but I could not imagine how to make it all work. Then, running into a Pacifica student in LAX one Christmas vacation,  I realized  I CAN take time off from work, and I CAN borrow money to make this happen.  After working with clients for a year in the MA program, I wasn't sure it was me, so I re-enlisted into the Depth Ph.D. program.

How Has Your Pacifica Degree Served You Professionally In Your Occupation/Vocation?
Being able to diffuse difficult situations at work.  Writing and research.

How Has Your Degree Served You Personally?
My partner who has endured the 8 years of my schooling says the relationship is better. I would say that is true for all the relationships in my life, including the one with myself.

What Was The Meaningful Or Memorable Part Of The Pacifica Experience For You?
I really got to work my wounds, shadow stuff, projections, while finding a language and a community at the same time. Bascially, this was a big gift to myself.  Like an 8 year long workshop retreat where you explore yourself and what is happening in the world, not to mention being away from work 3 days a month.  I wrote a screenplay as part of my dissertation which made it a fun experience.  There's a lot more, but I don't want to name innocent people...
