What Brought You To Pacifica?
Reading Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ books and participating in “Dream Tending” workshops with Dr. Stephen Aizenstat kindled my deep curiosity and appreciation for depth psychology. I wanted to explore this rich field in a program that nourished scholarship, creativity, and independence. I wanted meaningful and lively conversations about depth psychology with professors and fellow students.
How Has Your Pacifica Degree Served You Professionally In Your Occupation/Vocation?
My degree and the study of Depth Psychology expanded my success in business and generously enriched my professional relationships. Completing the doctoral program and dissertation demonstrated that working one step at a time on the most highly-valued, seemingly-impossible, and enormous task would forever be fulfilling.
A year ago, I took a position as a Senior Admissions Counselor at Pacifica Graduate Institute. I’m fortunate to have wonderful and profound conversations with people, young and old, who are adventuring into graduate work in depth psychology and mythological studies. I also advise students as a Dissertation Coordinator for the Depth Psychology Program. Outside of my job, I continue to lead dream groups, do individual dream work, and write.
How Has Your Degree Served You Personally?
The study of depth psychology has given me deeper understanding and compassion for my fellow human beings and appreciation for life itself. It has remarkably enhanced the ways I navigate the great difficulties, tragedies, and joys of life. It has given me ways to tend the soul. Depth psychology has enlarged my appreciation for the life and wisdom of the imaginal figures who grace us with their presence in night dreams and day dreams. The achievement of the doctoral degree has been a tremendous personal and professional accomplishment as well as a discovery of the richness of “not knowing.”
What Was the Meaningful or Memorable Part of the Pacifica Experience for You?
What was most memorable was the communication, intimate exploration, and lively conversations that took place among fellow-students and faculty in the classroom. The experience of seeing and knowing myself though my colleague’s and professor’s eyes and hearts was deeply impactful and touching. The most gratifying and meaningful experience was writing the dissertation.
